Karen Rivers, who writes for young adults, will tell us how she found her "dream job", as a writer.  Her most recent novels are What is Real, the XYZ Trilogy, and Barely Hanging On.

Are you looking for that perfect Christmas gift? Children’s Librarians from the Greater Victoria Public Library will tell us about their favourite children’s books. Enjoy storytelling by librarian Maureen Koch, mulled cider and cookies. Books will be for sale by Cadboro Bay Books and Tall Tales Books. Doors open at 7:00 pm.

For the low price of $5.00 you can purchase a raffle ticket for the chance to have award winning author Julie Lawson visit a Victoria classroom or library of your choice between January - June 2012. Tickets will be on sale at the December 5 Roundtable Meeting, and also may be purchased on this Blogspot under Pay Pal until December 2. The draw will take place at the December 5 meeting.

Julie has generously donated this visit as a fundraiser for the Victoria Children's Literature Roundtable, so please encourage your friends, colleagues, teachers, librarians and grandparents to buy a ticket!

**Conditions: The reading is to take place before the end of the 2011-2012 school year, at a time agreed upon between the winner and the author. The reading will be 45-60 minutes in length, with an audience not larger than 60 people.

Michael Kusugak, an
award winning author and storyteller from Repulse Bay, Nunavut writes fiction for children. His body of work ranges from his most recent book “The Littlest Sled Dog”, to his first book “A Promise is a Promise”, co-authored with Robert Munsch. He grew up living in igloos, traveling by dogsled, catching his food to eat and listening to his grandmother's stories. Michael will weave these experiences into his storytelling.

Claire Eamer, a professional writer, reporter and editor from Whitehorse, has written non-fiction books for children, including Lizards in the Sky: Animals Where you Least Expect Them, and Super Crocs & Monster Wings. She has also published short stories for young adults, and is a regular contributor to the children’s science magazine, YesMag. Claire will tell us how she turned her passion for science and history into writing for children.

Dayle Sutherland and Melanie Jeffs from Orca Books will present Orca's New 2011 Fall Book List.

Guest Speaker:  John Nedwidek
John Nedwidek is a designer, illustrator and first-time author from Victoria. He wears socks almost every day, and he's not very serious. John will read his children's book "Ducks Don't Wear Socks" and other tales including "Cheese Louise" and "I Thought I Was 10" and talk about how he creates his stories. He will also show sketches and illustrations, talk about how the Duck book came to be and his efforts to get a second book on the shelves.

Guest Speaker:  Robin Muller
Robin Muller is an award winning author who has been writing and illustrating since 1982. Robin will talk about the process of writing and illustrating a book and show examples of his work. He will be focusing on The Nightwood which just came out with Tundra Books, Thirteen Ghosts of Hallowe’en, Moon and Star, Badger's New House, and The Magic Paintbrush for which he won the Governor General’s Award.

Also at this meeting:
Amelia Frances Howard-Gibbon Illustrator’s Award – 2011 Winner and Honour Books
Joy Huebert, Branch Head of the Bruce Hutchison Library and Award Committee member, will tell us about the top ten books and how they were chosen.

Award winning author Julie Lawson will speak on “Fact or Fiction:  How to Write a Gripping Tale, While Still Remaining True to the Facts”.  Julie has published over twenty books for young people, including White Jade Tiger, which won the prestigious Shelia Egoff Award, historical novels about the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Klondike Gold Rush, and picture books.
